Since 1981 Lisa Bastian CBC has written well-researched news and feature articles (many cover stories) primarily for national business publications covering an extremely wide range of subjects. Her numerous well-researched works–over 550 of them–have appeared in respected print and online publications representing diverse fields, including meetings and conventions, business travel, economic development, community health care, hotel and motel management, and the business of fashion.
A national business magazine retains Bastian as the key contributor to its daily news feed about U.S. and global economic development expansion and relocation news. She writes/edits two to four stories each day. She has written for the print edition for 15 years. 2011–.
Bastian was the first (and only) Contributing Writer hired by the first editor of The Meeting Professional (originally named The Meeting Manager). This magazine continues as the monthly journal of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the educational and lobbying ”voice” of meeting planners and allied meeting professionals worldwide. Bastian authored wellover 40 full-length features (most were coveted cover stories), and won four prestigious writing awards for her work. Twice she was hired to produce stories and take photos for the on-site daily attendee newspapers produced during two annual global MPI conventions (Vancouver in 1994, Chicago in 1995).
While serving as Editor of Business SouthTexas magazine, Bastian wrote a story about how Texas is preparing for future pandemics. It won a prestigious IABC Silver Quill regional writing award.
During her five years as an Assistant Editor for St. Anthony Messenger, a national award-winning Catholic family magazine based in Cincinnati, Ohio, Bastian wrote numerous full-length features, a two-page monthly “world news” column and editorials. While serving as Managing Editor of Country Lifestyle–Texas Hill Country’s premiere luxury lifestyle magazine–Bastian wrote two award-winning personality profile stories (jeweler James Avery & Boerne entrepreneur Tom Cusick) as well as the books, editor’s product picks, and datebook columns.
As Contributing Editor for Business Travel Management national magazine, Bastian wrote stories about business travel trends and reviewed/visited hotels in popular second-tier U.S. cities. Monthly publication was mailed to thousands of business travel managers employed by mostly small- to medium-sized American companies seeking to hold down costs.
As a Writer for Guest Informant, Bastian wrote stories published in three annual hotel city guides distributed in upscale hotels of Kansas City, Missouri (1993-94), and Cincinnati , Ohio (1986-87, 1987-88). At one time Guest Informant was the largest publisher of guidebooks for major metro areas of the United States; later it became part of the Morris magazine division and was rebranded as Where GuestBook.

Bastian wrote numerous feature stories for two issues of The Associate, the corporate magazine for Mars PetCare US, one of the largest family owned global companies. This people-focused publication reflects the firm’s “family” atmosphere, and resonates with factory and white-collar associates alike. Mars flew Bastian from San Antonio to its Nashville headquarters to interview employees; eventually it hired a local writer to save costs.
As Contributing Writer for planetfeedback.com, an online complaint-resolution company based in Cincinnati, Bastian authored dozens of travel stories for firm’s“BuyersBuzz” magazine. Each week, she wrote two 550-word stories about all aspects of consumer travel (e.g., hotels, airlines, car rental firms, cruise lines).

Bastian serves as a Field Editor and Writer for Area Development, the respected national economic development magazine. It provides site-selection guidance for C-suite executives and owners of mostly manufacturing companies operating in the U.S. Bastian has written over 70 articles for this bi-monthly publication, as well as a dozen economic development marketing brochures promoting the assets of cities, states, foreign governments and economic development entities. 1996–. Bastian served as Contributing Editor (1993-94) for Lodging, the monthly management magazine of the 10,000-member American Hotel & Motel Association (AHMA).

Bastian wrote “One Less ‘Yes’ for Gardasil,” a well-researched article about the dangers of Gardasil STD vaccine for girls and boys. Published in Celebrate Life bi-monthly magazine by American Life League, the national pro-life organzation.
Women’s Wear Daily, the internationally famous ”business fashion” daily newspaper published in New York City, retained Bastian to attend the annual meeting of Cincinnati-based Mercantile Stores, then quickly write and file a business article about the company’s new “ActiveZone” sportswear division that same night.
Bastian wrote numerous features for San Antonio Weddings regional bridal magazine, a trusted resource guide for brides getting married in one of the Top 10 wedding markets in the United States.
Bastian authored Second-Tier: Better Than Ever, an article about the advantages of holding meetings in second-tier cities, for Penton Media
publication Religious Conference Manager.
Vuelo, the in-flight magazine of Mexicana Airlines, published Bastian’s full-length desination feature about San Antonio. one of the company’s major destination cities.
