The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) serves San Antonio and the 50,000-square-mile area of South Texas. It extends to campuses in the metropolitan border communities of Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley. More than 3,000 students a year train in an environment that involves more than 100 affiliated hospitals, clinics and healthcare facilities in South Texas. For over 40 years the Dental School at UTHSCA has graduated top oral healthcare professionals, conducted pioneering research, and successfully treated tens of thousands of patients in San Antonio and across South Texas.

Salute is the official magazine for the alumni and friends of the School of Dentistry. It shares inspiring stories highlighting dental alumni, faculty and students who are revolutionizing education, research, patient care and critical services in the communities they serve.

TASKS

After the university's Dental School planned to launch its first issue of Salute in Summer 2014, the UT Communications Dept. hired Bastian to write the primary feature articles about the school's history and major accomplishments. Lisa also was asked to interview a founding teacher emeritus to get his recollections about the “early days” of the institution, including insights on how much the School has grown in the ensuing decades. The magazine was warmly received by the university's alumni and the wider community, and continues to be published annually.
